Susan Steeg:

Retrospective

In planning this retrospective, I selected what I considered to be the best examples of the diverse styles used over these many years. Each piece was chosen to represent an important stage in my creative life, ranging from hard-edge realism to pure abstraction.

In a long career, I’ve explored a wide range of subjects and visual languages. I’ve found extraordinary material in everything from portraiture to industrial and urban landscapes, to large scale abstractions using grids to stabilize the components of the composition. Personal experiences and observations of world events have been pivotal in shaping my artistic journey so far and remain crucial to how I see the ongoing relationship between my life and art.

Wayne Bowen:

A Touch of Realism

“A favorite subject matter of mine is people in their environment. I often look for beauty in the marginalized and disenfranchised...."

Bowen’s canvases are characterized by quiet intimacy, each brushstroke capturing the subtle dignity of his subjects. He is drawn to city stoops, bustling street corners, and the quiet solitude of laundromat spaces where the poetry of daily existence unfolds unnoticed. Through carefully observed light and shadow, Bowen imbues the mundane with a sense of reverence, inviting viewers to witness the resilience and grace found in lives too often overlooked. His commitment to realism is not only a stylistic choice but an act of empathy, transforming ordinary moments into powerful reflections on humanity.
