Patricia Herz Deahl
Paintings merge control and pleasure with my private reality and emotional reaction to the physical world. I paint air and earth: sky and ground, and the drama of the horizon, that mythical union. Two dimensions receding into the expanse of a third and leading us to the fourth dimension of spirituality.
Landscape is the universal nostalgia of place blurring reality with abstraction. The paintings originate from experience, and then are made from memory and invention. The tools are layers shapes, colors, textures, and edges. They are guided by reflection and inspiration.
I cannot match the scale of literal space with the scale of emotional space, but I use them both. My work is as small as the most intimate suggestion and as large as freedom itself.
The dialogue between painter and painting, like any drama, longs to be shared.
